Education for Ministry, or EFM, is a program offered by The School of Theology of the University of the South, an Episcopal Seminary. EFM covers the basics of a core seminary program in Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, and Theology over four years of the course. People sign up for EFM one year at a time.
 
The seminar groups (maximum of 10 students per group) meet weekly during the academic year with breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Holy Week. Two groups will be available for new members: one on Tuesdays and one on Thursdays. Both groups meet from 6:30-9:00pm.
 
The enrollment and introductory gathering on Thursday, August 19 will include a general introduction to EFM with Q&A about the program, a brief experience of Theological Reflection, and an opportunity to take a look at the lesson materials. Enrollment materials will be completed at the end of the gathering, with tuition payments collected at that time. The 2010-11 syllabus and calendar will also be available.
 
Since the Episcopal Church in Minnesota is a sponsor of EFM, the cost of the 18 CEU course for 9 months is $360 ($160 less than in a non-sponsored diocese). Compare this to the cost of a 3 credit hour course in Scripture at local seminaries, which would be at least $1,700 plus fees. So EFM is very much a bargain for $40 month. Questions?
