Outreach Opportunities

One of the cornerstones of our M&M mission is outreach. Ss. Martha and Mary has been blessed to be given many opportunities to reach out and help others while also sharing in our community and faith. The congregation has joyfully participated in a variety of activities benefiting people throughout the congregation, the Eagan and Twin Cities Area, and at times, internationally.

Bear and A Prayer program:  The purpose of this program is to ensure that a child is comforted during a time of crisis. We produce teddy bears in volunteer workshops that are held throughout the area with local Twin Cities businesses as requested. Our Ss M&M workshop leaders guide the business volunteers in the creation of the bears. We average about 10 workshops a year producing about 200 bears for distribution. Teddy bears are then shipped nationally and internationally, wherever there is a need.

Bread Run : Every week volunteers pick up baked goods from Cub Foods and deliver them to B. Lewis House, Dakota Woodlands, ISD 196 Adult Learning program, Community Action Council in Eagan and Rosemount, community meals at Mt Calvary Church(quarterly), Face to Face of St Paul, and to individual families during times of need.

Congregational Care: This internal ministry provides prepared meals to our members who are in need due to illness, birth of a child, death of a family member, etc. At times we support each other by helping with transportation or childcare needs during this time as well.

Dakota County Adopt-a-Highway: Twice yearly in the fall and spring our youth and adults participate in a highway clean up effort (Yankee Doodle Drive, Between Lexington Ave and Hwy 149).

Dakota Woodlands: For the month of May we have a towel outreach for Dakota Woodlands, a shelter serving our community for homeless women and children. New sets of bath towels are given as gifts to families for use during their stay and eventual transition from the shelter to permanent homes.

Face to Face is a non profit agency in St Paul serving youth who are economically or socially disadvantaged. We have several activities that provide assistance to this organization including clothing drives, Christmas Giving Tree, hosting a Christmas party, and donation of gifts from the Bear and a Prayer program.

Food Shelf Collection: Every week food and monetary donations are collected on Sundays and provided to the 360 Communities food shelves which serves families in Eagan and Rosemount. We also hold community food drives in the spring, summer and early fall months.

Red Cross Blood Drives: Every 3 months our church hosts the American Red Cross blood drive.

The Heifer Organization: Our Sunday School children contribute weekly to a youth fund which is used at the end of the Sunday School year to purchase water buffaloes for families in 3rd World Countries.

United Thank Offering (UTO): In celebration of the many blessings our our lives, members (adults and children) of our congregation regularly collect their spare change in a UTO boxes for donation to the United Thank Offering. Boxes are blessed and the money is used to help people all over the world. The United Thank Offering is a program of the Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole Church, founded and administered by women since 1889.

Veterans Recognition: Collection and delivery of various seasonal greeting cards to residents of the Minneapolis Veterans Home. Participation in Project Backpack which provided backpacks and school supplies to children of currently deployed or recently returned military personnel. Donation of gloves, hats, scarves, and other winter wear for homeless veterans throughout the Twin Cities area.
